We here at bcal usually just scour the web to find information that we think would be useful to the people of Bayonne and the citizenry as a whole. This story caught my eye so I felt compelled to comment. My time in the legislature has made me fairly familiar with the legislators. My time in the Department of Community Affairs gave me that same familiarity with Camden. Without going into the detail, the state pours a lot i mean a lot of money into Camden, and in my opinion Mayor Redd is Camden’s last hope. She is an intelligent politician but yet she is also a policy wonk that couple with her pragmatic style makes her the ideal person to lead Camden out of the darkness. My only hope is that the city embraces the Mayor and allow her free hand in making some of the tough decisions that face that city.

There are many voices in the senate and its easy for one to get lost in the crowd. However I would like to highlight one Senator who I think deserves to not only have his voice heard but to be applauded for his tireless effort in his efforts in reforming health care in our state. That Senator is Joesph Vitale. In my time following the legislature I haven’t seen anther senator who has with laser like focus on our health care. Not only today but the health care system we will be living with for years to come. So today I would like to applaud Senator Vitale. Below is a link to his Bio and his legislation.

I listened to the the assembly hearings and I came away with a sense of pride in being a resident of our state. I applaud the bipartisan assembly leadership for holding the hearings. Being a skeptic I assumed that this would be a dog and pony show, but for the many residents who showed up on short notice to have their voices heard was a real credit to our state. Most residents showed up in the spirit in which the event was meant to foster a dialog between the public and their representatives in Trenton. Speaker Oliver was right on when she opined that legislators in Trenton get caught up in a bubble where they lose focus of what the people they are sent to Trenton to represent are feeling, not only were many creative ideas from the citizen’s who attended presented, citing examples from other states, federal legislation that was in the works and other creative ideas, it was remarkable. I want to leave my thoughts at praising the public and the legislators to getting off to a good start. What will come of this we shall see. I encourage you to listen to some of the hearing it can be found on the legislative website
