The President…

Spoke to all of us tonight and I urge everyone to re-read his remarks. He spoke to us in manner long removed from our political discourse. He laid out his plan in a concise thought-out strategy. The president didn’t simplify the situation; he gave us a great opportunity to get an honest assessment of a major event in our country’s history. Please don’t read the pundits- you don’t need the speech explained to you- we all have the capabilities to digest the President’s speech and come to our own conclusions. God Bless the American people and God Bless the President.

On Wednesday, December 9, Steve Roberts will be doing a book and author presentation at the Bayonne Jewish Community Center, 1050 Kennedy Blvd., Bayonne.  His new book, From Every End of This Earth, profiles thirteen immigrant families and the new lives they have made in America.  The book was inspired by the lives of Steve’s immigrant grandparents, who lived in our hometown of Bayonne.

The event will have two parts:

1) A light supper with Steve at 6:00 p.m.  ($25 for patrons or $15 regular price)

2) A book presentation at 7:30 – free and open to the public

Both parts of the event will be at the Bayonne JCC.  Book patrons will receive preferred seating at the presentation.  Books will be available for sale, and Steve will sign each copy.

Steve Roberts was a reporter with The New York Times for 25 years, and then wrote for U.S. News and World Report.  He and his wife, journalist and author Cokie Roberts, write a syndicated column.  Steve is a Professor of Journalism and Public Affairs at George Washington University.  He grew up in Bayonne on 31st Street and 33rd Street, and is a graduate of Bayonne High School and Harvard University.

The book describes the struggles that each family had in leaving their homelands and coming here.  It is an uplifting book that reminds each of  us what America has meant to our families.  I do hope that you will be able to join us at this event. The book will make a great present for Chanukah or Christmas.

To reserve your place at the supper, please call the Bayonne JCC at 201-436-6900.
